CSBA Launches Congressional Defense Seminar Series (CDSS)
Washington, D.C., October 21, 2019 – The Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments (CSBA), the world’s premier center for understanding future international competition and conflict, officially launched its inaugural series of seminars designed for Congressional staff members on October 17 at its Washington Headquarters. The program featured an opening session for the 16 incoming CDSS Fellows hosted by former Congressman Randy Forbes (R-VA), a member of CSBA’s Board of Directors, and attended by members of the CSBA team and outside guests. Following the reception, the Fellows were welcomed by CSBA President and CEO Tom Mahnken before engaging in a detailed and highly interactive examination of defense strategy and force planning let by Mahnken and CSBA Director of Research and Studies Evan Montgomery. Upcoming sessions in the weekly series will cover topics ranging from operational concepts and investment considerations to emerging technologies and coalition strategies.
According to Congressman Forbes, “CSBA ran a rigorous process to select an outstanding group of Fellows to be the first Hill staffers to receive the detailed, non-partisan analysis and keen insights that have characterized the institute’s work over many years. As this group of CDSS Fellows become national security thought leaders of the future, I’m sure they will harken back to this program as a milestone in their professional development.”
Added Mahnken, “If our initial session is any guide, the CDSS should become a compelling clearinghouse for fresh ideas on long-term strategy, the changing character of international relations, and deterrence in the 21st Century. We look forward to hosting many more sessions designed to engage next generation of defense policy leaders.”
