On June 4, 2020, CSBA held a webinar discussion on the release of our new report, Deterrence By Detection: A Key Role for Unmanned Aircraft Systems and Great Power Competition, by Thomas G. Mahnken, Travis Sharp, and Grace B. Kim.

In CSBA’s latest study, CSBA President and CEO Dr. Thomas G. Mahnken, Research Fellow Travis Sharp, and Senior Analyst Grace Kim propose a new operational concept to deter Chinese and Russian aggression, one that uses a network of existing non-stealthy long-endurance unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to maintain real-time, persistent situational awareness in key geographic areas in the Western Pacific and Eastern Europe. The authors argue that real-time situational awareness is critical to countering the twin challenges of sub-conventional gray zone aggression and a conventional fait accompli gambit promptly and effectively.

On Thursday, June 4th tthe Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments had a big day, with a well-attended Remote Rollout of our latest report, Deterrence By Detection, along with an appearance on the Government Matters public affairs program on WJLA-7, in Washington, DC, also broadcast worldwide through the Armed Forces Network.
