2016 – Developing Alternative Defense Strategies

With CSBA and Breaking Defense and experts from AEI, Cato, CNAS and CSIS

The Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments (CSBA) has joined with teams of experts from four other prominent think tanks – American Enterprise Institute (AEI), Cato Institute, Center for a New American Security (CNAS), and Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) - to offer alternative defense strategies for the United States. Please join us for a discussion moderated by Breaking Defense's Sydney Freedberg.

Each team developed its own defense strategy and rebalanced Department of Defense's major capabilities in light of projected security challenges. These strategies, however, may not represent the official position of each think tank. Using CSBA's Strategic Choices Tool and methodology, the teams were able to choose from over 1200 pre-costed options to add or cut from the projected defense program over the next ten years (FY18-27). Each team has highlighted its views on the rough resources and capabilities necessary to implement their strategic vision for the United States.
