The Philip Merrill Center for Strategic Studies and the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments seek participant nominations and applications to the annual “Strategy in the Asia-Pacific Region” course, which will take place at the Johns Hopkins SAIS campus from May 6-17, 2019.
“Strategy in the Asia-Pacific Region” is a two-week course for mid-career professionals in the national security community; it is a graduate-level training opportunity for those who seek an immersive education in Asia and strategy.
Through lectures, seminar discussions, conversations with senior practitioners, and simulations, participants will learn about:
The Regional Setting: Enduring U.S. interests in Asia - Strategic geography - Demographic and economic trends
Regional Actors: The great powers - U.S. allies and partners - Local flashpoints and rivalries
Strategic Concepts: Long-term competition - Military innovation - Deterrence
Instruments of Statecraft: Diplomacy - Economic tools - Intelligence
The tuition for the 2019 program is $14,000. This tuition does not cover lodging or travel expenses to and from Washington, DC. Applications for the course must include a resume, a cover letter, and a brief description of the applicant’s current or potential research and/or topical interests. A recommendation letter may also be sent separately or together with the other materials, but it is not required.
