The Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments (CSBA), one of the nation’s premier centers for understanding competition and conflict, today announced the appointment of Dr. Sameer Lalwani as a Non-Resident Senior Fellow. Dr. Lalwani, currently a Senior Expert with the Asia Center of the United States Institute of Peace, will support CSBA’s ongoing work on Indo-Pacific strategy, nuclear deterrence, and strategic competition.
Before joining the United States Institute of Peace, Dr. Lalwani spent seven years at the Stimson Center, serving successively as Deputy Director and Director of the Center’s South Asia program, and as a Senior Fellow for Asia Strategy. He was a Stanton Nuclear Security Postdoctoral Fellow with the RAND Corporation from 2014 to 2015 and a Non-Resident Research Fellow with New America’s International Security Program from 2008 to 2015. He was also a Predoctoral Fellow at George Washington University’s Institute of Conflict Studies from 2012 to 2014. Dr. Lalwani is the editor of Investigating Crises: South Asia’s Lessons, Evolving Dynamics, and Trajectories (Stimson Center, 2018). His research has also been published in Security Studies, International Studies Quarterly, the Journal of Strategic Studies, Small Wars & Insurgencies, Survival, The Washington Quarterly, Asian Survey, Foreign Affairs, and the New York Times. He received his Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
