CSBA welcomes LtGen Robert “Rooster” Schmidle (ret.) PhD as its newest Non-Resident Senior Fellow

The Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments (CSBA) is pleased to announce Lieutenant General Robert “Rooster” Schmidle, USMC (ret.) PhD, as its newest Non-Resident Senior Fellow.

Dr. Thomas G. Mahnken, CSBA President and CEO, said, “I’m excited to have General Schmidle join the CSBA team.  Rooster’s deep expertise in fields as varied as cyber operations, program analysis and evaluation, and air warfare will strengthen our already powerful team.”

“General Schmidle is a very welcome and valuable addition to the CSBA staff,” added Ambassador Eric Edelman, CSBA Counselor. “Rooster joining our extraordinary team adds depth to an organization that is the leading public policy institute for research on defense concepts, capabilities, and resources in an increasingly contested international environment.”

As he joins CSBA, Schmidle is also the University Advisor on Cyber Capabilities and Conflict Studies at Arizona State University, a Professor of Practice in its School of Politics and Global Studies, and a Senior Fellow in its Center on the Future of War.  He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Defense Science Board.

Schmidle holds a master’s degree from American University and earned his doctorate from Georgetown University.  His numerous publications are in the fields of moral philosophy, social psychology, and military history.
