The chairmen and ranking members of the House and Senate committees each appointed three members, for a total of 12 members on the panel. House Armed Services Chairman Mac Thornberry (R-Texas) appointed Eric Edelman, a former undersecretary of Defense for policy and former ambassador.
Senate Armed Services Chairman John McCain (R-Ariz.) appointed retired Gen. Jack Keane, former vice chief of staff of the Army; and Thomas Mahnken, president and CEO of the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments.
