Nelson Ford Announced as CSBA Board Chairman

CSBA is pleased to announce the appointment of the Honorable Nelson M. Ford as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments (CSBA). Mr. Ford’s appointment was approved by unanimous consent at the organization’s board meeting in December 2011. Mr. Ford succeeds the Honorable Dave McCurdy, President and CEO of the American Gas Association, who will continue to serve as a director on the board.

“We are delighted that Mr. Ford has accepted the Chairmanship,” said Andrew Krepinevich, CSBA’s President and CEO. “Nelson brings a wealth of experience and insight on both strategic and budgetary issues, which together comprise the core of our research and education program. CSBA has benefited immensely from his service on the Board. He has made major contributions to our strategic review, and in enhancing and streamlining CSBA’s management practices. I have no doubt that Nelson’s extensive experience in senior leadership positions at the Department of Defense and in the corporate world will continue to serve CSBA well as we continue working to promote innovative thinking and debate about national security strategy, defense planning and military investment options during these turbulent times.”

Krepinevich also thanked outgoing Chairman, Dave McCurdy, for “his outstanding leadership during a period of great transition at CSBA. Dave’s tireless efforts as Chairman was a key factor in enabling us to navigate successfully the challenges posed by a rapidly changing economic environment while at the same time broadening our sources of support and enhancing our reputation within the strategic studies community. I am grateful that we will continue to have the benefit of his service as a CSBA board member.”

Mr. Ford is President and CEO of LMI, a not-for-profit government consulting firm. Prior to joining LMI in 2009, Mr. Ford served as the Under Secretary of the Army and, prior to that, as Assistant Secretary of the Army for Financial Management and Comptroller.  Mr. Ford has also served as Chief Operating Officer of the Georgetown University Medical Center. During the 1980’s, Mr. Ford was a partner with Coopers & Lybrand, providing strategic and financial consulting services to a wide range of healthcare clients. During the 1970’s, he served as Executive Secretary of the Health Care Financing Administration and worked on health policy matters in the Office of Management and Budget.

Mr. Ford holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Duke University and a master’s in education from the University of Delaware.
